Screening of Manhatta (1921) and Redes (1936) at Christine Cinema Club

Thursday, April 23 at 8pm at Christine Cinéma Club

Introduction by Lydie Delahaye.

On the occasion of the exhibition Paul Strand: The Balance of forces, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and the Christine Cinéma Club propose a special evening around two films by Paul Strand: Manhatta (1921) and Redes (1936). Manhatta, made with the painter Charles Sheeler, is considered the first opus of American experimental cinema but also the initiator of a genre very popular with the avant-garde, the “city film”. Redes, also known as The Wave or Les Révoltés d’Alvarado, is Strand’s first feature film. It documents the struggle of a group of Mexican fishermen against the capitalist exploiter.
