In this book, American photographer Sophie Barbasch retraces her journey along a railroad line under construction in northeastern Brazil. She encounters timeless people and situations, rendered almost-fantomatic by the risographic print, which transforms her wanderings into a succession of points and shapes to be guessed at. Published by the Penumbra Foundation – which strives to playfully link the artistic and scientific aspects of photography – the book becomes a mysterious, timeless object whose beginning and end are nowhere in sight.
