The Inevitable Anguish of Desire is a photographic series by Berlin-based Greek photographer Maria Denise Dessimoz. The series was intended as a cathartic exercise, drawing inspiration from difficult dreams and painful emotions. Alternating digital, analog and cell phone photography, the whole retains a grainy coherence and builds a visual language infused with symbolism and dreamlike imagery.
Exhibited at the Athens Photo Festival in the summer of 2024, the series was co-published by Maria Denise Dessimoz herself and the Zoetrope Athens artists’ studio in the form of a book printed by Kedapress, and provides a glimpse of the current Greek art scene.
