With his pictures of a “Steel Town”, Stephen Shore give us the portrait of a declining land. This “Rust Belt”, once the most thriving region in America, seems fragile under his lens : empty factories, deserted bars, tensed expressions. Commissioned in 1977 by Fortune Magazine, this fresco of an american disillusionment still echoes today.
