Book of the month – February 2024
Between 2015 and 2017, Palestinian artist Taysir Batniji lived in Europe and communicated via video calls with his relatives remaining in Gaza. In a series of “glitched” photographs, he captured the degradation of images due to the Internet connection.
At the time of these calls, the serie exposed the limits of digital communication in order to maintaining family ties and related the heartbreak of seeing his homeland only through altered images. Published by Loose Joints in February 2024, it takes on a new dimension. The artist produced images anticipating the destruction of Gaza City, the cutting off of communications, and the tragic loss of loved ones. Beyond the artist’s intimate family sphere, the images today evoke a loss of collective vision.
Announced on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Loose Joints is releasing “Disruptions” with profit going to the NGO Medical Aid for Palestinians.
