Between 2010 and 2012, artist Violette Bule gave photography workshops in prisons across her native Venezuela. The “De la Lleca al Cohue” publication is composed around some 50 images chosen from the 3,000 produced during these workshops. It reflects the creative and personal freedom that enabled the participants to express singular perspectives on their daily lives: “the prison became something else”, as one of them explains in the introduction.
Published in 2023 by Casa Roga in Mexico, as a limited edition of 500 copies, this little book of photographs, humble and accurate, still attracts attention today, subtly underlining the necessity and power of these artistic and emancipatory actions in a violent system.
Texts in Spanish and in English.
