Conversation with Clément Chéroux about Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Images à la Sauvette (The Decisive Moment)
Wednesday, June 26 at 7 p.m.
“Books remain”, said Henri Cartier-Bresson. Published in 1952, The Decisive Moment quickly become a reference in the field of photographic bibliophily. Robert Capa called it “a bible for photographers”. Many other great photographers—Walker Evans, Minor White, William Eggleston—recounted the shock of leafing through it for the first time. It sparked many a calling for photography.
To celebrate the launch of the new edition of this legendary book (out June 1st), the Fondation is hosting a unique Feuilletage: Clément Chéroux, historian of photography and director of the Fondation, will explore the history of this emblematic book, discussing the conditions under which it was produced, the reasons behind its critical success, the challenges that lay behind the choice of title and, more generally, what makes Henri Cartier-Bresson’s photographic eye so special.
The event will be held in french.
Tickets on sale at the online ticketing service.
